Robert Tatum Hughes, age 88, died Wednesday, February 11 at Azalea Health and Rehab in Metter. Mr. Hughes was retired from the maintenance department of the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theatre and was a purple heart recipient. Mr. Hughes was an elder emeritus and long-time member of the Pembroke Christian Church; a long-time member of Pembroke Masonic Lodge #469; was a charter member of Groveland Hunting Club who also enjoyed fishing and gardening, taking special pride in his rose garden.
Survivors include his wife of over 62 years Georgia Colson Hughes of Pembroke; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Theron and Bonnie Kay Hughes of Pembroke and Sandy Roger and Amy Hughes of Pembroke; two daughters and sons-in-law Betty and Billy Glosson of Dublin and Majoy and Jack Waters of Bloomingdale; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at Flanders Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Glosson, Elder Spencer Moore and the Rev. Jim Sullivan officiating. Interment followed in Northside Cemetery.
Flanders Morrison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
