Martha Scott gillespie was born August 15, 1801 at Denny, Sterlingshire, Scotland, daughter of William Scott and Isabelle Graham Scott. Martha married Peter Gillespie in Scotland. They were the parents of fourteen children, all of whom were born in Scotland. martha and her family emigrated to America in 1852. After arriving in America they crossed the plains to Utah and arrived in Salt Lake City October 12, 1852. They came to Tooele to make their home. Later she and her husband moved to Salt Lake City where her son, John was working as a stonecutter at the building of the Salt Lake Temple.
