"294 individuals and 56 wagons were in the company when the roster was created on it began its journey from the outfitting post at Keokuk, Iowa. Four babies were born on the trail. The company was organized at Kanesville, Iowa (present day Council Bluffs, Iowa). The first people were reported to arrived in the valley as early as 15 September, but others continued to come in up until 20 September 1853.""
