Mr Atkinson was the son of William Thomas Atkinson and Lena Belle Akers Atkinson. He lived in Chilhowee since 1973. He was a farmer and a member of the South Fork Baptist Church, Freeman, MO. On 11 Feb 1936, Clinton, MO, he married Lora Flossie Barnard. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1993. Survivors include three daughters, Opal Casteel, Clinton, Charlotte Murphy, Steel, MO, and Mary Ann Rector, Oak Grove, five sons, Robert L., Chilhowee, Harold F., Holden, Tommy A., Chilhowee, Benjamin F., Independence, Tony L., Kansas City, MO, two sisters, Lucille Barnard and Millie Hadley, both of Holden, two brothers, Paul and Robert L., both of Clinton, 28 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Irene Rainey, three sons, Joe E., Art and Earl, three sisters, Chessie, Florence and Frances, five brothers, Oliver, Edgar, John Clyde, Roy and Louis. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 21 June 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Chapel, Holden. Officiant will be Rev. Warren Haley. Pallbearers will be Allen Atkinson, Larry Atkinson, Randy Atkinson, Eric Atkinson, Clayton Atkinson, Rickie Atkinson, and Howard Wesley Groves.
