Son of Silas Jr.
aged 79 years 7 months 21 daysFrom Marty of Goshen we get the information that James Youngs was a son of Silas Youngs, Jr. and that James died at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 21 days. Marty got this information from "The Coleman Cemetery Book" at the Orange County Genealogical Society," at Goshen, New York.

Additional information comes from a genealogy of the Youngs Family which says that James Youngs was a descendant of the Rev. John Youngs, founder of Southold, Suffolk County, New York through the Reverend's line of Capt. Joseph Youngs, Gideon, Gideon II, Silas, Silas II and then we finally get to Colonel James Youngs himself.

James's first wife was Abigail (or Abagail) Clark, daughter of Nehemiah and Elizabeth Clark. Abigail (Abagail) was born 24 Mar 1779 and died 22 Jun 1822. She had married in 1802.

When Col. James Youngs married the widow Mrs. Grace Coffey Alger on 2 Jul 1823, he brought daughter Martha (born 16 Jan 1803) and son James Madison Youngs (born 13 Oct 1809) to the marriage. There is a record that he and his first wife had another child who died young before his mother died. Grace, the new bride, had son Charles Coffey Alger (born 4 Jul 1809) and Emily F. Alger (born 1818 or 1819). (It appears that Grace had at least one son who died very young before her first husband died.)

Martha Youngs married Wicks Seely and James Madison Youngs married Ruth Schuyler. Both Youngs children had issue.

At the time of this new marriage, Charles Coffey Alger was two days short of his fourteenth birthday and James Madison Youngs was a few months younger. Emily F. Alger was so young when her father, Levi Alger, died that Col. James Youngs could have been the only father she remembered. When Charles Coffey Alger died he left his stepbrother $1,000 which was a nice sum in 1874.
