He was the son of Martha Ellen "Mattie" (Gilmore), who died in Kentucky, and Cornelius Decatur Broyles, who died in California.

His obituary from the July 5, 1978 Brownsburg Guide:

Luther C. Broyles, 86, Danville, died Tuesday, June 27, in the Golden Rule Nursing Home, Danville. He was married to Hazel Seymour. She preceded him in death in 1975. Broyles was a retired farmer, but was better known throughout the county as a livestock trader. He was a member of the Danville Evangelical Fellowship and is survived by two sons, Luther C. Broyles, Jr and Glen Broyles, both of Plainfield; one daughter, Mrs. Herman Ragsdale, Pittsboro; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Emma Wynn of San Francisco, California, also survives. Services were Saturday, July 1, at the Weaver Funeral Home, Danville, with the Rev Marc Hays officiating. Burial was in the Lizton K of P Cemetery.


In 1910, he was living with his grandparents, Felix and Emmaline Broyles, in Dallas, Pulaski County, Kentucky. They were listed as follows: Felix, head, age 76, married for 55 years, born in east Tennessee with both parents born there, occupation farmer; Emmaline, wife, married for 55 years, 10 children with only 9 living, born in Virginia with both parents born in Virginia; Luther, grandson, age 18, born in Kentucky with father born in east Tennessee and mother born in Kentucky; and Mattie, age 11, granddaughter, also born in Kentucky. Living next door was a man named Epson F Broyles, age 26, single, born in Kentucky with father born in east Tennessee and mother born in Virginia. His death certificate shows that he was the son of Felix Broyles of Tennessee and Emiline Johnson of Virginia, so he was Luther's uncle.

SSDI shows his birth as 1892. His WWI draft registration shows 1896. His WWII draft registration shows 1891 which is also the year on his gravestone. Cousin Vickye Blatherwick (#47619061) provided middle name and names of parents and links.
