Obituary - Kin of Early LDS Leader Dies at Daughter’s Home
Mrs. Mary Catherine Lloyd Woodruff Ensign, 90, a granddaughter of Wilford Woodruff, former president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Thursday of natural causes, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Joseph E. Geertsen, 1371 S. 5th East.
A member of the LDS Church, Mrs. Ensign had sung in the LDS Tabernacle Choir for many years. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the University of Utah Emeritus Club.
She was formerly employed as a sales clerk at ZCMI for many years.
Mrs. Ensign was born April 5, 1870, at Salt Lake City, a daughter of James J. and Fanny Lloyd Woodruff. On Dec. 4, 1895 she was married to George Albert Ensign at Salt Lake City. He died Feb. 29, 1912.
Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Joseph E. (Eloise) Geertsen, Mrs. B. LeRoy (Fanny Louise) Gunn, James Grant Ensign, all of Salt Lake City; Herman G. Ensign, Denver, Colo.; Albert L. Ensign, Baker, Ore., and Lloyd G. Ensign, Detroit, Mich.
Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. J. Herman Johnson, Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:15 p.m. at 124-4th East where friends may call Sunday, 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday prior to services. Burial will be in Salt Lake City Cemetery.
