Birth abt 1840, prob in Hempfield twp, Westmoreland Co PA.

from family records: "Philip was wounded at the 2nd battle of Bull Run, sent to a hospital set up in a church at McLean or Alexandria VA where he died a couple weeks later. He was a part of Company I, 11th Regt of PA Volunteers. Most of this regiment was from Westmoreland Co PA"
Philip's bro. George W (listed as MACKLING) died in Aug 1863 & is buried "across town" at the Alexandria Nat'l Cem, Alexandria VA (findagrave # 21577337)

Phillip Mechling was mustered into the 11th,Pa.Vol.Inf.Reg.Co.I.as a Pvt. on Sept.20th,1861 at Greensburg,Westmoreland Co.Pa.He was 22 years old.He died of wounds recieved at the 2nd Battle of Bull Run on Sept.21st,1862.and was buried at the Military Asylum Cemetery,Wash.D.C.
