Christine was born in 1837 in then Baden, Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1860. Sometime before 1870, she married Hermann "John" Serfling with whom she first lived in Chicago, Illinois, where John was working as a painter and they had the first three of their four children, Louisa, Albert and Johanna.

In 1870, they were living in the 15th Ward with: Christine's mother, whose name is listed as, Johannah Dradenbucher, who was born in Baden in approximately 1803-1804; and, Louisa, who was born in December of 1869. In 1873, when Albert was born they were living in the 15th Ward on a Cornelia Street, house number 133.

Christine and John then lived in Iowa where Herman was born but by 1880 they had separated and she was living in Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas, with her four children: Lavinia (Louisa), Albert, Joanna and Herman. Ultimately, she settled in Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado.

It appears that John abandoned Christine and the children by or in 1878. By that year, he had settled in Willlmont Township, Brown County, Minnesota, and reported his wife as having died.

In the 1885 Colorado census, Christine is listed as C. Serfling, working as a cook, and living with Joanna (misspelled as "Johnson" on census), Albert and four boarders.

In 1885, Louisa Serfling married one Henry Oliver Wood in Colorado. She died in Pueblo County, Colorado, in 1900. No reference to Christine's son Herman has been found after the 1880 census; he probably died prior to 1885. Per the 1889 Pueblo City Directory, "Mrs. Christina Serfling" was a laundress and lived at: r. 409 Plum.

On April 1, 1901, shortly after John Serfling died, Christina applied for a Civil War Widow's pension indicating that she was John's widow. This pension was denied
