There will be a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown, preceded by closing prayers at 9:30 a.m. at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Betty M. Dougherty, 83, of Boardman, who passed away the afternoon of Feb. 24, 2009, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman Campus. She was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Hawthorne, Pa., a daughter of the late William and Bertha Drayer Bish.

Her husband and love of her life, Edward J. Dougherty Sr., whom she married Sept. 23, 1944, passed away Jan. 18, 2008.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Austintown, and the Christian Mothers and Mary Martha Guild of St. Joseph the Worker Church in New Castle. She enjoyed ceramics and crafts, and was a member of several card clubs. She had a very outgoing personality, with a great sense of humor. She easily made friends, and was loved by all and will be sadly missed by all.

Survived by five children, Carol Ann Lloyd and her husband, Evan, of Pittsburgh, Janice Marie Deak and her husband, Paul, of Austintown, and Edward J. Dougherty Jr., Catherine Hogue and her husband, David, and William R. Dougherty, all of New Castle; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters.
