Helen I. (Fisher) Higgins, 83, of Vincennes passed away Tuesday, Oct., 7, 2008, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville.

She was born Oct. 31, 1924, in Lawrence County, Ill., to the late Frank and Elsie Mae (York) Pinkstaff. She married Eugene Fisher on Sept. 11, 1943, in Vincennes. He died on Oct. 30, 1971. She later married Lowell Higgins on Jan. 1, 1975. He survives.

Helen had worked as a nurse's aide at Good Samaritan Hospital for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Rising Sun Christian Church in rural Lawrenceville and attended Franklin Heights Christian Church in Vincennes. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and was former Woman of the Year. She was a dedicated Christian wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Austin Pinkstaff and Arthur Pinkstaff; and three sisters, Bonnie Weger, Minnie Lutrick and Macy Pinkstaff.

She is also survived by two sons, Darrell and wife Linda Fisher and Ronald and wife Jane Fisher, all of Lawrenceville; a stepson, Lowell Higgins Jr. and wife Bernadine of Vincennes; a stepdaughter, Sheila Perry and husband Richard of Vincennes; two sisters, Hazel Mahan of Vincennes and Wanda Manship of Glasgow, Ky.; six grandchildren, Carmen Rains of Robinson, Ill., Curt Fisher of Charleston, Ill., Kevin Fisher of St. Louis and Keith Fisher, Christy Whewell and Kimberly Fisher, all of Lawrenceville; eight great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Cierra and Collin Rains of Robinson, Ill., Cameron and Casey Fisher of Charleston, and Wyatt and Elsie Whewell and Karter Fisher, all of Lawrenceville.

Services are at 10 a.m. CDT Saturday at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be given to the Rising Sun Christian Church, c/o the funeral home.
