Herod Long was 1st married John Hicks in London, when she was about 14 years old. This husband was NOT the John Hicks who was born to Pilgrims Robert and Margaret Hicks in Surrey in 1605. John & Herod (also called Herodias) immediately emigrated to New England, settled in Weymouth MA, then Newport, RI, where they had three children:
1.Hannah Hicks Haviland 1638 – 1688 who married William Haviland.
2.Thomas Hicks abt 1640-abt 1740. I made a memorial for Thomas # 89989463.Thomas married Hannah Carpenter.
3.Elizabeth Hicks 1644 – 1691 who married Josias Starr of Middlesex,CT.
Allegedly after Herod received an inheritance from her mother's family, John abandoned her and disappeared with her inheritance.
In May 1645, Herod entered a common law marriage with a neighbor, George Gardiner. They had 3 children, and Herod was pregnant with a 4th, when John Hicks reappeared and accused her of adultery. After her 1st divorce, Herod formally married George in June 1645 and had a total of nine children before she became a Quaker and, 5 May 1665, petitioned to divorce George as well.
By 1673 Herod had entered a third marriage with Quaker John Porter. She died in Rhode Island in 1722.
John Porter married (2), after 1665 and before 1671 Horrod (Long) (Hicks) Gardiner, divorced from, or deserted by, John Hicks and George Gardiner. (John and Horrod probably never married.) There were no children of this marriage,

Married John Hicks in 1636. Even if she was only 13-14 years old in 1636, that would have her being born in 1622. Unlikely she lived to be 100 years old. "Colonial families of Long Island" by Seversmith has her death as about 1705.
