John H. Bane, Sr.
John Harvey Bane, 82, of Parrott, died Tuesday in a Marion hospital.

Surviving are four sons, John H. Bane Jr., Washington D. C, W. Carl Bane, Parrott, Brady E. Bane, Tampa Fla., and Herbert L. Bane, Marion; five daughters, Mrs. Alice Cressell, Mrs. Rachel McGrady and Mrs. Frances Brunk, all of Parrott, Mrs. Lilly Purdy, Roanoke, Mrs. Lottie Crowder, Tampa, Fla.; two brothers, Ed Bane, Pulaski and Grayton Bane, Bland.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Parrott Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Fred Austin. Burial will be in Sifford Cemetery.

The body will be taken from the home of his grandson, John Bane, Parrott, to the church one hour before the service.

John Harvey Banes, was the fourth of fourteen children of James William "Bill" and Margaret Banes. On his birth certificate, his date of birth is shown as December 25, 1880; the 1900 Pulaski County Census has his birth month listed as May. In this census he was shown as living next door to his father and his two aunts, Bettie and Sallie Banes in Little Creek.

He married Virginia Bell Carden on December 25, 1899 in Pulaski County, Virginia. She was born on July 9, 1882; her parents were Robert Andrew Carden and Mary Bell Runyon. John and "Jennie", as she was called, had ten (10) children;

John Harvey moved from Little Creek to Parrott, Virginia and remained there until his death. Parrott was a mining town for many years and John worked as a miner for a time. He also worked as a carpenter and mason, having done a lot of work in the Parrott area, and at one time he ran his own little general store in Parrott.

John Harvey died on August 2, 1961, at the age of 81. His wife was a tall woman with large bone structure while John was quite short. She died on July 11, 1960 at the age of 78. Both are buried at Sifford Cemetery in Parrott, Virginia.
