(In the book, "The History of Kit Carson County, Colorado," by Kit Carson County History Book Committee, Curtis Media Corporation, Dallas, Texas, 1988, pgs 370-371 it states:
"Charley was born in Humboldt, Nebraska, on Nov. 26, 1882, the oldest of 7 boys and five girls." "His parents, James Franklin, Sr. and Martha Frances (McKee) Barnhart, moved to Reynolds, Nebraska in 1883 and then in 1891 moved to a farm 11 miles west of Hoxie, Kansas, where they were neighbors to Jennie's family.")

"Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bryan attended the funeral services of Mr. Bryan’s cousin, Charles Barnhart, seven miles southwest of Hale recently. Mr. Barnhart was a separator man, and in some way, was caught in one of the belts and was hurt so badly that he lived only a short time after the accident. He leaves a wife and seven children besides other less near relatives to mourn his passing. Burial was at Burlington."
