Wife of John T. Caldwell

Research Notes:

From the work of Lucy Lucille (Caldwell) Stotts - great, great, great granddaughter of Joseph; great, great granddaughter of John T. First compiled Feburary 20, 1933, revised February 4, 1964:

John T. Caldwell was born April 3, 1776 in Westmoreland County, PA. Died September 3, 1847. Age 71 years, 5 months. Married Elizabeth Eackler, born March 6, 1782. Died October 24, 1859. Age 77 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

Both buried in Plat -9- Lot -5 in Hawley Cemetery, Paris Township near Palmyra, Ohio. This data from E.M. Wilcox, Sexton of Hawley Cemetery on March 13, 1940. Wilcox stated his mother knew the Joseph Caldwell family of Edinburg, Ohio. [Joseph, son of John T.]

John T. was the father of thirteen children, most of whom were sons, and one was my [LLCS] Great Grandfather. All grew to manhood and womanhood, married and had children except Jim (James).

Note: Lucy Lucille Caldwell Stotts was the daughter of Louis N. Caldwell and Lucy E. Surbaugh, granddaughter of Nicholas Caldwell and Abigail Jane Curtis.

Sexton's Records.

E.M. Wilcox, Sexton of Hawley Cemetery on March 13, 1940 to LLCS Plat 9 Lot 5.

Secondary source: The Portage County Genealogical Society, Ravenna, Ohio 1994, Portage County Ohio Cemeteries Volume III Paris Township and Charlestown Township 1819-1993, pg 3, 977.137 V3p v. 8.

Plat 9 Lot 5. "Samuel Caldwell, son (sext. rec.)."

Possibly another book (will look in Salt Lake City)

In an old tombstone transcription of the Hawley Cemetery in Portage County, is a record of Elizabeth and John Caldwell, and next to them is Samuel Colwell, age 29y 2m.

A third source, which creates a discrepancy, is Portage County Cemetery Records book found at Reed Library in Ravenna, which has Samuel Caldwell buried in Section 1 Row 3.
