Sister of Louisa, Charles, Edward, Albert, Jr., Clara, Lena & Henry Hercher.
Wife of George Broedel (m. Dec. 25, 1912, Sycamore Valley, Monroe Co., Ohio).
Mother of Clarice, Robert, Laura & Lloyd Broedel.
The 7th of eight children born in a log cabin, she and George moved from Sycamore Valley in 1915 to a Reno, Ohio, farm given to her by her mother and where she resided for 66 years. Widowed at age 56, she carried on the German commitment to hard work, a trait undoubtedly instilled in her by her mother who was widowed at age 38 with seven children ranging from ages 9 months to 18 years.
Every summer she grew an enormous garden, and what she didn't can, freeze, or give away, she sold. She kept one cow, "Bossie," for milk, baked her own bread, churned her own butter, raised her own chickens, and also grew gladiolas that she sold to a local florist. In the summer, she picked blackberries and apples from the pasture field and later, paw paws and hickory nuts from the woods. Nothing ever went to waste, and there were always fun things to do at her house! As well as being an avid gardener, she was also a great cook and seamstress and enjoyed quilting and playing canasta and pinochle. She devoted her life to her family and gave to others at every opportunity.
She was a member of St. Paul's Church of Christ (the German Evangelical "Kirche" built in 1842 with its prior name now restored to St. Paul's Evangelical) and Augusta Rebekah Lodge No. 272. She was also a member of Valley Farmers Club for many years in addition to being a loving grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Died just 24 days before her 91st birthday.
Those we love don't go away;
They walk beside us everyday,
Unseen, unheard, but always near...
Still loved, still missed and very dear.
