Laura Louise Broedel Alden, 105, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the home of her daughters in Reno, Ohio, one day after her 105th birthday. Per her request, there was no visitation.
She was born November 23, 1916, to the late George and Freda Hercher Broedel and was a life long resident of Reno. A homemaker and protestant by faith, she enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, and community affairs. She was also an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and football, and for several years was co-leader of the Evergreenettes 4-H Club.
On September 27, 1937 in Maryland, she married Harry William Alden, and after his retirement, they enjoyed many winters in Florida until Harry passed away on October 2, 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Evelyn; brothers, Robert and Lloyd Broedel; and sister, Clarice Lane; and an infant grandson.
Memorial donations may be made in honor of Laura Broedel Alden to the Marietta Township Community Center, 260 Sandhill Road, Marietta, Ohio 45750.
Following a May 14, 2022 Celebration of Life picnic for family and friends at the home in Reno where she was born and raised, a private graveside service was held in Rainbow Cemetery.
