Mary Ellen Stonebraker, was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, September 16, 1840, and moved with her parents to St. Charles, Missouri, when twelve years of age. She married to J. W. Eaton, March 19, 1863 at St. Charles, and with her husband moved to Nebraska City in 1864. They moved to a farm six miles south of Syracuse and in 1890 moved back to Nebraska City. After Mr. Eaton had served four terms as probate judge in Otoe County, the family returned to Syracuse. Judge Eaton suddenly passed to the great beyond on August 20, 1905. Since that time Mrs. Eaton has made her home here or with her children in other places. She was the mother of eleven children all of whom survive her except Laura, the oldest of the family.
The children are: Oliver R Eaton, Goodland, Kansas, Harry E Eaton, LeRoy, Kansas, Julia E Cook, Broken Bow, Kate E Cook, Syracuse, Jas H Eaton, Syracuse, May E Holt, Grand Junction, Colorado, Wm P Eaton, Syracuse, Nettie E Spong, Omaha, Bessie E Ptak, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Edward T Eaton, Seattle, Washington.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at two O'clock, Rev A. O. Hinson, conducting the services. A quartette consisting of J. D. Anderson, Miss Mary Smith, Miss Laura Lambeth, Rev. A. O. Hinson, sung two hymns and Rev Chas. Gray sang, "Face to Face"
The interment was made in Park Hill Cemetery, beside her husband.
A large concourse of sorrowing friends assembled at the church to pay the last tribute of respect to an old friend and neighbor.
