Lawrence was born in Austin Township, Macon County, IL, the son of John Enos Sr. and Elva L (Hubbard) Albert. He graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1922. He married Rena Mae Rogers on June 19, 1926. They had three children: Patricia Aileen Albert, Paul Eugene Albert and Earl Dean Albert. In the early years of marriage Lawrence did trucking, had a milk route and was rural mail carrier besides farming.
Lawrence served as an election judge in Austin Township from 1923 until he moved to Warrensburg in December of 1976. He served as President of the Macon County Farm Bureau in 1959 and 1960. He also was on the board of the Macon County Fair Association for many years and was President of the Macon County Health Improvement Association, an office he held for more than 22 years.
Before he retired, they farmed and lived in the same house for 51 years. He and Rena enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church.
