Lawrence served as an election judge in Austin Township from 1923 until he moved to Warrensburg in December of 1976. He served as President of the Macon County Farm Bureau in 1959 and 1960. He also was on the board of the Macon County Fair Association for many years and was President of the Macon County Health Improvement Association, an office he held for more than 22 years.
Before he retired, they farmed and lived in the same house for 51 years. He and Rena enjoyed square dancing and were members of the Warrensburg United Methodist Church.
