Mrs Olive Heap died Friday night at the hospital following an extensive illness. She had been bedfast since the last of December and had lived most of her life in Thayne. Funeral services were held Wednesday.
Olive Herrick Heap, 81, pioneer resident of Thayne died March 12, 1976, at the Star Valley Hospital in Afton of causes incident to age, after a long illness.
Funeral services were held March 17 at 12 noon in the Thayne Ward LDS Chapel, with Counselor Dick Dana conducting. Burial was in the Thayne Cemetery.
She was born June 11, 1894 at Ogden, Utah, the 11th child in a family of 13, to William James and Emma Jane Wright Herrick. She spent her childhood and attended school in Ogden and Willard, Utah. In 1905 she moved to Star Valley and lived on a ranch near Thayne. She walked seven miles to Thayne to school.
Olive endured all the hardships of early pioneer life. As a young girl, she helped clear land dig post holes and plant crops.
She married Henry Harrison Heap June 17, 1910 in Paris Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
They raised their family on a farm and in a home in town until 1928 then moved to a ranch they rented. On Jan. 1, 1934 their house burned down, and all that was saved was the clothing they were wearing.
Once when the whole family, including her husband, came down with the measles. Olive had to walk two miles night and morning and milk 15 cows, typical of what was required of pioneer residents.

In 1956 her husband died and she spent the remainder of her life in Thayne. Her hobbies included all kinds of fancy work, raising beautiful flowers and working in her yard, along with quilting. In 1965 she suffered a heart attack and from that tis in poor health. She underwent a cataract operation on her eyes and lost the sight in one and damaged the other. In 1973 she moved in with her daughter Elaine in Thayne.
