Abel Fix Oct. 29, 1913 -Feb. 12, 2009
An avid gardener, farmer and keeper of his meticulously manicured family homestead, Abel Fix had a passion for life. He attracted people wherever he went because of his warm, magnetic personality.

His garden was filled with raspberries, fresh vegetables, flowers and love. He shared all of this with family and friends delivering his annual summer bounty in person. He also brought with him his kind and charming smile, his gift of gab, his contagious laughter, and his great sense of humor. He will be missed by many who shared all or even a small portion of his 95 years.

Today, Abel is making a new garden surrounded with all his family and friends who have been waiting patiently to be joined with him once again - only this time in heaven.

He will be missed and his memory cherished by his daughter Mary Jane Fix and his sons Joe/Dick (Andrea) Fix of Charlotte, and James (Dolores) Fix of Monroe. He enjoyed his five grandchildren, Chad (Amber) Fix of Chicago, Bryan (Deb) Fix of Grand Rapids, and Shannon, Ryan and Kelley of Phoenix, Arizona. He also loved his three great-grandchildren, Mitchell of Chicago, and Kerstin and Heidie of Grand Rapids. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Mildred (Frank) Grabetz and nieces and nephews.

Abel was born October 29, 1913, to Oliver and Louise Fix in Monroe. He married the love of his life, Lucille Gaynier, on October 29, 1940, at St. Charles Church, Newport. She preceded him in death November 17, 1968.

A lifetime farmer, he was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church and its Men's Club. He worked at the voting polls for Frenchtown Township for 25 years and volunteered at parish festivals. Added to his love of gardening, Abel also enjoyed spending time with family, friends and visiting on the phone.

In addition to his wife and parents, Abel was preceded in death by his sister, Marie (Mario) Germani.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Rupp Funeral Home, where a rosary service will be Sunday at 7 p.m. Prayers 10:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, funeral Mass 11 a.m. St. Joseph Church, Monroe. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
