Mary Jane "Jennie" Adams, born December 15, 1869, was the seventh of the ten children of John William and Paralee Jane Norris Adams.
******************

Mary Jane Adams and James Hawthorne Neel were married in Gainesville, Texas on March 27, 1892. That same year, they moved to the Indian Territory, living near Roff, where their three oldest children were born:

(1) Elizabeth "Betty", born Nov. 22, 1893
(2) Ada, born June 21, 1896
(3) David, born June 22, 1900

The rest of the children were born:

(4) Neva Lou, born May 4, 1903, in Pontotoc County,
I.T.
(5) Finis Ewing, born April 15, 1906, in Ada, I.T.
(6) Josephine, born Aug. 26, 1909, in Ada, I.T.
(7) Marguerite, born Dec. 29, 1912, in Ada, Oklahoma

The Neel family moved to Ada, I.T. in 1905. Mr. Neel was a pioneer groceryman in Ada; his first place of business was on West 7th Street in north Ada. In 1910, his business was moved to 12th and Broadway, where the fire station was later located. At that time, his grocery store and meat market were on the first floor of the two story building. The Ada City Hall was on the second floor.

In later years, Mr. Neel bought and sold cattle in this area; he was a familiar sight on Main Street, riding on his big bay horse.

He moved from Ada in 1925 and died in Fletcher, Oklahoma in 1936. His widow lived in Oklahoma until 1969,[then moved to California to live with Josephine and her husband, where "Jennie" passed away on September 26, 1977, less than three months shy of her 108th birthday].
