DEATH OF MRS. HINCHLIFF

Diphtheria Claims Another Victim - Interment at Spangle

After an illness lasting only 10 days Mrs. Jane Hinchliff, relict of the late Ed Hinchcliff, died Monday afternoon at her home in South Colfax of diphtheria.

The remains were taken to Spangle Wednesday, where her father lives, and buried beside that of her husband and two children. Rev. J. Herbert Bainton of this city accompanied the remains to Spangle.

Owing to the nature of the disease only short services were held at the grave. Mrs. Hinchliff was a woman well known in Colfax, and greatly beloved by all who knew her. She leaves behind an aged father, three sisters, two brothers and seven children, all of whom
were at the funeral.

Her husband died two years ago last August. She was the mother of nine children, two now sleeping in the grave beside her.Mrs. Hinichliff was born in Eugene, Oregon, and was 46 years of age. She
was a member of the Circle and the Degree of Honor.

Mr. and Mrs. Hinchliff came to Colfax to live in 1890, engaging
in a general merchandise business, operating what is known as the Whitman Mercantile Co., which, since his death, has been operated by his widow and will be continued by the surviving heirs, who are familiar with every detail. Mr. Hinchliff had the distinction of being
elected sheriff of Spokane county, and held that office at the time Spokane was destroyed by fire in 1888.
