Ruth Arizona Cartner Kimmer, 84, formerly of Mocksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, at Lexington Health Care Center in Lexington, after being in declining health for several years.

She was born Feb. 28, 1924, in Iredell County, and was the daughter of the late Percy Lee and Sara Rose Etta Foster Cartner.

Mrs. Kimmer had worked with P.H. Hanes Industries in Winston-Salem, worked as a nurse's assistant at Iredell Memorial Hospital, and retired from Heritage Furniture Company in Mocksville. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Harmony where she had sung in the church choir.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Godbey and Beulah Prather.

Survivors include a daughter, Rose Mary Kimmer Sowers (Tommy) of Welcome; two sisters, Naomi Stroud of Statesville, and Elizabeth Stroud of Harmony; two brothers, Paul Cartner and John Cartner, both of Statesville; four grandchildren, Chad Sowers (Christa) of Elon, Danny Sowers (Dianne), Tonya Hutchins (Tim), and Sonya Link (Kevin), all of Welcome; seven great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home with the Rev. Jessie Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Baptist Church cemetery in Harmony. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 1263 E. Memorial Highway, Harmony, NC, 28634; or to First Baptist Church of Welcome, 404 Welcome Arcadia Road, Welcome, NC 27374.
