"Death Takes Mrs. Roberts," Brownsville Herald (Texas), Thursday, 9 May 1940.

Mrs. Esther [sic] A. Roberts, 73, Brownsville resident for 12 years died at 8:05 a.m. Thursday at her home on Second and Fronton streets. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday by Rev. Melvin Babbitt at the Assembly of God church. Burial will follow in Buena Vista cemetery [sic, City Cemetery] under the direction of Garza Funeral home.

Survivors include 11 children, 40 grandchildren, and a number of great grandchildren. Mrs. Roberts was the mother of 16 children, five of whom are dead.

Surviving children are Charles O. Roberts, Mrs. R. Villa Rodgers, Cedar Vale, Kans.; Cleve A. Roberts, Elk City, Kans.; Mrs. Ira L. Locey, Claremore, Okla.; Mrs. Sadie S. Hoyle, Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Esther A. Bowman, Gore, Okla.; Mrs. Gladys M. Butcher, Brownsville; George N. Roberts, Brownsville; Mrs. Marie Anne Brigance, Yale, Okla.; Shelby W. Roberts, Brownsville and Mrs. Byrel S. Price, Salisaw, Oklahoma.

Mrs. Roberts, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio came to Brownsville from Oklahoma.

A note about the place of burial: although the obituary lists Buena Vista, City records indicate she was buried in the City Cemetery, Lot 11, block 5.
