Eliza Jane (Campbell) Brown was born to Joshua and Jane (Leslie) Campbell in Galena, Jo Daviess, Ill. Around the age of 24 she married Jacob Strawn Brown and made a home in Rio La Plata (Hesperus), La Plata, Colorado.
Eliza and Jacob had 8 children: Mary Jane "Jenny" (Brown) Hall 1879-1944, Charles Coe Brown 1883-?, Robert Brown 1884-before 1900, George L Brown 1885-1902, Anna Belle (Brown) Meeker 188-1939, John C Brown 1891-?, an unknown child in 1893 who passed away shortly afterward, and Wesley Green Brown 1895-1961. Wesley is named after her sister's husband John Wesley Green.
In the 1890's Jacob and Eliza raised their family along the Oregon Trail where he worked on building railroad tracks and she raised the children. The family settled in the Big Bend, Shasta, CA area for a while. Later Jacob would pass away in 1899 during the Russian influenza pandemic. Eliza continued to raise their children in the rural towns of Big Bend and Millville, Shasta County, California. During this time she took a job as a 'washer' and later became a nurse.
In the 1920's she relocated near her daughter, Mary Jane "Jennie" (Brown) Hall in Texas. In 1924, Eliza passed away due to complications from a stroke and is buried in the Old Emma Cemetery, Ralls, Crosby County, Texas. She is buried in Row E-2.
