Somewhere around 1838 he and Sally moved their family of five known children: Lawrence, Martha "Elen", Francis, John Andrew, and Lucinda to the Sandy Lake area of Mercer County, PA. While living in Mercer County they had four more children, Sarah Jane, Margaret, Hiram and Joel.
The 1850, 1860 and 1870 census records show Francis DeLong working as a carpenter.
The DeLong family was originally from the Netherlands, and Francis' paternal grandfather spelled his name "DeLange."
