Silas Wilson Irby, aged 82 years 10 months and 25 days, died at the family home, 4l4 South Penn avenue this morning at 2:30 o'clock. Death was due to heart trouble and pneumonia. The deceased was born in Switzerland county, Indiana, in 1858, where he grew to manhood. In the fall of 1870 he came to Kansas from Vermillion, Ind., locating on a farm ten miles southwest of Independence. During the year 1883 he moved to this city and had been a resident here since that time.
Mr. Irby was a faithful member of the First Methodist church and also of the G. A. R., McPherson post No. 4. He was a good citizen and a man of high esteem and when physically able always took an active part in the affairs of the community.
He leaves to mourn his death, six daughters and three sons, Mrs. William Clay of Lenapah. Okla.; Mrs. Sarah Fredman of Ramona Okla.; Mrs. Sophie Shupp of Canyon City. Just about twelve days ago Mr. Irby's devoted, faithful wife passed to the great beyond and this no doubt hastened his death.
