Mrs. Halperin was born near Gomel, Russia, emigrated [sic immigrated] to the United States, and made her home in Chicago in 1923. In Russia she was a practicing pharmacist when she met and married Aaron Halperin, at that time in hospital administration. In 1969 following his death she came to Oak Ridge to make her home with her son and daughter-in-law.
She was a member of the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge as well as a life member Hadassah.
She is survived by her son, Joseph, a chemist at Oak Ridge National Laboratory; her daughter-in-law Sita; and four grandchildren, Linda Ruth, Daniel and Rebecca Halperin of Oak Ridge and Susan Halperin Bryant of Nashville.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. today at the chapel of the Martin Funeral Home. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Rabbi Daniel Zucker officiated.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of gifts to the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge, Beth-El Synagogue, West Maiden Lane, or the Hadassah Medical Research Fund, c/o Dolores Friedman, 149 Cumberland View Lane.
