W. C. ORRELL DIES AT HOME OF SON HERE
Brave Confederate Soldier Passes At Age 89. Funeral Arrangements Not Completed.
Washington C. Orrell, aged 89, died yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence of his son, Charles Washington Orrell, on Rainbow Avenue, after an illnness of several weeks duration.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, awaiting the arrival of members of his immediate family from their distant homes. However, it has been arranged that the services will be held in the chapel of Poole and Blue and will be conducted by Rev. Charres F. Myers, D.D., Pastor of the FIrst Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Orrell was a brave Confederate soldier, member of a North Carolina regiment and served throughout the War between the states. He was wounded in one of the battles in which he participated. He was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro and Guilford County. He spent most of his life here and attracted many friends because of his high Christian character and friendly disposition.
Mr. Orrell was the son of L. D. Orrell. He married Miss Maggie Hughes, daughter of Madison Hughes. His wife died some years ago. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Emma Abbott, of this city; a brother, Jeff Orrell, of Stokesdale; four daughters, Mrs. H. E. Heritage, Mrs, A. D. Kellum, Mrs. J. S. Pender and Mrs. D. O. Oldham, all of this city, all four sons, Charles W. Orrell, of this city; J. Ed Orrell and Arthur D. Orrell, of Florida, and Percy E. Orrell, of Newark, N. J., besides a number of granchildren and great grandchildren
