The funeral services Sunday (May 30) afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church at Hanover were attended by a large number of people. Mr. Gerdes was a conscientious Christian, a careful provider for his family and an upright character, one of those who are great assets to the community. May he rest in peace and may his example continue to be a blessing.
Henry died of a heart attack while seated at his son Herman's dinner table.

Funeral rites were held Sunday for Henry Gerdes, 64, prominent Bremen farmer, who died May 28 of a heart attack while seated at a dinner table. The death occurred shortly after noon, as Mr. Gerdes was seated at the dinner table. He had been in ill health three years.
Born September 23, 1872 near Auburn, Nemaha Co., Nebraska, he was a life-long member of the Lutheran church. The highly respected farmer was wedded July 6, 1904 to Miss Zeibig (the couple took up farming near Hanover) (silver wed anniv says moved on a farm near Oketo) after which they engaged in farming near Haddam, Hollenberg, and Bremen.
Surviving are his widow, his sons, Herman and Fred Gerdes, and his daughter, Rene, all of the Hanover community; his brothers, Frank Gerdes, Ruskin, Neb., and John Gerdes, Oketo; his sisters, Mrs. John Herman, Ruskin, Neb.; Mrs. J.K. Remmers, Herkimer; Mrs. Claus C. Remmers, Bremen; and Mrs. Albert Weber, Lanham, Neb; and two grandchildren.
Rites were conducted by Rev. K. Klinger after which burial was made in Hanover cemetery.
