SALEM--Gretchen was the oldest child of Otto and Hulda (Lardon) Beutler. She was born and raised in the Pratum area, attended Pratum Grade School and graduated from Salem High School in 1937.
She was a bookkeeper at Stroheckers in Portland for many years. Her interests included her family, corresponding with friends and playing the organ, which she did at many churches in the Portland area. Gretchen will be remembered for her beautiful handwriting and notes of encouragement and comfort.
Her brother Henry and sister Lillian preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Elsie Beutler of Salem; nieces, Ruth Nelson of Scappoose and Beth Lang of Oregon City; nephews, Neil, Paul and Henry Beutler of Salem, Mark Beutler of Clackamas, and Ralph Beutler of Hay Springs, Nebraska; and 17 great nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wed., Nov. 28 at Emmanuel Bible Church, 8512 Sunnyside Road NE, Salem, OR. Private family interment to be at Pratum Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Samaritans Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000 or the charity of your choice.
