Dean Hopson, 83, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2009.
Funeral: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Mausoleum.
Dean was born June 10, 1925, in Browns Creek, Coryell County, to Ethel and Walter Hopson. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1942 and then enrolled in Texas A&M University where he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. He was a World War II veteran, member of the Wolf Hound Division and participated in the invasion on D-Day. Dean was honorably discharged in February 1946 and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars.
After his discharge, he re-enrolled at Texas A&M and graduated with a B.S. in business and accounting. Upon graduation, Dean went on to have a 40-year career with Texas Electric, where he retired as director of procurement for TXU in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Daisy Erwin; his parents; and his brother, Lt. Col. Jean Franks.
Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Wanda Hopson; son, Steve Hopson; daughters, Janna Rosier and husband, Jim, and Jill Agan and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Caleb Rosier and wife, Aimee, Andrea Murr and husband, Ben, Steve Hopson, Katie Hopson, Taylor Rosier, Payton Agan and Paige Agan; brother, Ross Franks and wife, Bernice; brother-in-law, Robert Erwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
