Miriam was a native of the Westminster area and a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Westminster Republican Club. She attended Western Maryland College and was director of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years. She was a member and a volunteer for the Carroll Lutheran Village Auxiliary and the Carroll County Hospital Auxiliary. She also did volunteer work at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center and a life member of the Carroll County Historical Society. Her work included dressing up as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny to deliver presents to hospital and nursing home patients.
