Aunt Lizzie married three times, but had no children. She out lived Uncle Harry Shaffer and Uncle Lambertine Collins. Uncle Walter Albert, her third husband outlived her. However, she mothered many foster children, neighbors, nieces and nephews. I for one spent much of my preschool years with Aunt Lizzie. It was she who opened her home to my Mother, Father, and younger sisters when our house and barn burned on March 31, 1923. We older children stayed with friends until our house was rebuilt. All her life she had a way of doing for others.

When Uncle Jim's first wife, Mary, died leaving a newborn and two very young children, Aunt Lizzie helped out until Aunt Ethel, Aunt Mary's sister came to care for the children. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Jim were later married.

Aunt Lizzie was always special in our house. She was kind, loving, and gentle. No matter how hectic the day had been for Mama, Aunt Lizzie's arrival could change the atmosphere. Aunt Lizzie was nurse, mid-wife and provider to many less fortunate in time of need.

Her death was caused by a massive heart attack and she is buried in St. John Cemetery, Westminster, Maryland.
