CARRIE YATES CHOATE-SMITH
An Angel came Thursday, January 15, 2009 and carried our dear, sweet beautiful Mother to be with her Heavenly Father and to spend eternity in the Home He prepared for her.
In 1939, when Mother was 14 years old, she dedicated her life to God, during a revival being conducted at Bill's Creek School by Bro. Arden Franklin. Later she was baptized in the cool, unpolluted waters of the Obey River.
Our Mother's body will be resting beside her Mother Martha Catherine at the Bill's Creek Cemetery.
Mother was born July 19, 1924 to parents Joe and Martha Catherine Yates, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mother was an ultimate care-giver. Her priorities in life were being there for her children, grandchildren, foster children, as well as all those whose paths she crossed. She was a master quilter. Her passion for creating beautiful quilts has left her family with keepsakes we will cherish forever. She was an avid gardener. Her huge veggie gardens kept her family well fed as well as keeping us busy during harvesting time. Her passion for growing beautiful flowers brought smiles to so many faces. She spent many hours among her beautiful flowers. They gave her tremendous pride and peace.
Funeral services took place in the Chapel at Mundy's Funeral Home in Jamestown, Tennessee. Assisting with the services were Bro. Orbin Lenord "Dog" Lane II of Cookeville, Danny Howard of Clarkrange, Roy Smith and the Jerry Lowe Singers of Jamestown.
Mother was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Claxton Choate; her father's second wife, Alpha Yates; two grandchildren, Sarah Crouch and John Lutheren Delk; sisters, Electa, Cordie, Cindy,?Myrtle, Clara, Zola, Nola and Olen. Brothers, Kirkland, Elbert, Kenneth and Otis.
She leaves to mourn her passing ten children: Charles and wife Lisa of Dunkirk, Indiana, Carl and wife Ann of Whiteland, Indiana, Wanda and husband Ralph of Livingston, Howard and wife Lois of Hanging Limb, Donald and wife Linda of Morristown, Edward and wife Brenda of Cookeville, Guy and wife Joy of Allred, Glenice of Jamestown, Martha and husband Robert of Manchester and Jack of Alpine.
Mourning her passing are 19 grandchildren: Terri Ann, Gabriel, Samatha, Jaime, Jason, Donna Sue, Lynn, Janie, Melinda, Cameron, Brett, Leanna, Joshua, Jessie, Frankye, Joseph, Mark, Bradley and Scott. 15 Great-grandchildren: Travis, Tyler, Allen, Kimberly, Jennifer, Andrea, Hunter, Carson,?Mitchell, Samuel, Bragan, Parker, Landon McKinley, Bryce, Landen Kenwood.
Additional, mourning our mother will be her very dear, loyal friend, Geraldean Doss, plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends, as well as lots of special friends and caregivers at Signature Health Care in Jamestown.
Active pallbearers were grandchildren: Jason, Lynn, Janie, Cameron, Brett, Leanna,?Joshua, Jessie, Frankye, Joseph, Mark, Bradley and Scott. Honorary pallbearers were: Robbie Stewart, Roy Smith, Geraldean Doss, June Crabtree, Lisa Blevins, Patsy Mayse and our Dad's brother Austin.
