Marshall was the son of Walter Webster Smith and Sally Warren. He married Hattie Boyer. They had no children.
Marshall had a brother George Webster Smith who was killed in Jefferson TX by a mob known as "Knights of the Rising Sun", a KKK affiliate. There is a memorial to George there. We do not know where George was buried. His family placed a memorial in Curtis Cemetery, Noble Twp Branch Co., MI. Marshall was a farmer in Noble Twp. and a banker in Bronson.
