George Webster Smith was the son of Walter Webster Smith and Sally Warren. He went to Jefferson TX after the Civil War and started a business. He became active in state politics and had views sharply different than the local citizens. He was shot by a group known as Knights of the Rising Sun, the Texas version of KKK. We are not sure where he was buried but the family put his name as a memorial cenotaph on the Smith monument in this cemetery.
He was honored by the State of Texas with a Historical Marker. More information can be found at:
