JONESBORO — Funeral services for Charlie Townsend, 74, of Beaumont, Tex., were to be at 2:30 p.m. today at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Tannehill with the Rev. E. B. Barton and the Rev. W. F. Harrel officiating.

Burial was to be in the church cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Mr. Townsend died Monday at Beaumont Medical-Surgical Hospital in Beaumont, Tex. after a lengthy illness. He was a retired minister in Jackson and Winn parishes.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma Bell Townsend of Livingston, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Esther Grice of Winnfield and Mrs. Marie Lee of Fayette, Ala.; one son, the Rev. C. J. Townsend of Lumberton, Tex.; one sister, Mrs. Audie McDaniel of Winnfield; two brothers, Henry Townsend of Winnfield and Jessie Townsend of Lake Charles; 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
