PLANTSVILLE — Mr. Alfred "Fred" Laone, age 82, of Rivercrest Drive, formerly of Irvington Avenue, Waterbury, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Bradley Memorial Hospital in Southington. He was the loving husband of Concetta "Connie" (Scozzafava) Laone.

Mr. Laone was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Waterbury, a son of the late Frank and Clementina (Ciccarelli) Laone. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School and a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran. Fred was a Navy Seabee, stationed in Guam during World War II, and was stationed on the USS DeHaven during the Korean War. He worked as a foreman at Heminway & Bartlett Co. for 28 years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Healthy Hearts Group where he served as a past treasurer. He was a past board member of the AARP No. 2127 of Waterbury and assisted his wife, Connie, with her organized trips through her group, Connie's Friends. Fred enjoyed traveling, but his true joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

Besides his loving wife of 56 years, he is survived by a son, Frank Laone Sr. and his wife, Sandra, of Waterbury; a daughter, Donna Sayles and her husband, Robert Sr., of Waterbury; two brothers, Joseph Laone of Prospect and Anthony Laone of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Frank Laone Jr., Jennifer Phung, Robert Sayles Jr. and Ashley Sayles; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers, John Leone and Louis Laone, and his two sisters, Nancy Arcari and Mary Leone.

A funeral with full military honors will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m. from the Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 9 to 10 a.m.
