Emil Schild, 92, of Milton-Freewater, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, in the chapel at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater. Concluding services and internment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place.
Mr. Schild was born March 6, 1909, at Harvey, N.D., to William and Louise Tebelious Schild. He grew up on the family farm and attended Harvey schools.
In October 1929, he married Hilda Koepplin at Isswich, S.D. Mr. Schild farmed at Lehr, N.D. until 1947, when he moved his family west to Walla Walla. He worked with his Uncle Jim Hagen in the plastering business for a year.
In 1948, when the U.S. Corps of Engineers established an office in Walla Walla, he began working for them. Mr. Schild worked as a mail courier for the Corps until his retirement in 1971. His wife, Hilda, died in 1964.
He later married Dorothy Carr at College Plaace and the couple moved to Milton-Freewater in 1987. They were married for 36 years.
Mr. Schild was a member of the Milton-Freewater Seventh-day Adventist Church and attended regularly until ill health prevented his attendance.
He enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Schild, at the home; son Floyd Schild of College Place; daughter, Kathleen Thompson of Nampa, Idaho; sisters, Luella Wiebe of Walla Walla, Margery Weems of Willows, Calif., and Loretta Weidert of Pendleton; brother, John Schild of Harvey, N.D.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A sister Lorraine Teske, also preceded him in death.
