[Calvary Cemetery History, Coffey County Genealogical Library, Burlington, KS]
The funeral of A. Decker was held at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic church in Burlington Monday morning in charge of Rev. Fr. A. J. Domann of Paola, a former pastor. The large church was filled with sympathizing friends and old neighbors, non-catholic as well as Catholic. Following the Solemn High Mass, Father Domann gave a splended tribute to the life and character of Mr. Decker, speaking of his rise to success from a poor immigrant boy. There were beautiful flowers, and many mass cards.
The interment was in Calvary cemetery beside the body of his first wife. Rev. Father P. R. O'Sullivan assisted Father Domann in the service at the grave.
The pall bearers were six stalwart sons: George, Fred, Louis, Michael, Edward and Manuel Decker. Many relatives and friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
Aloys Decker was born in Alsace, France, March 6, 1854, and when about 18 years of age moved to America, settling in Indiana in 1873. He landed there with 35 cents, in a strange land with a strange language. He was married in 1880 to Miss Elizabeth Brounogel, and in 1884 they moved to a farm near Hartford, Kans., where they lived until 1902 when they moved to what is known as the Throckmorton farm just north of Burlington. Thirteen children were born to them and all survive except twin daughters who died in infancy.
Seven sons and four daughters survive him: Mrs. W. J. Wagner, Kansas City, Mo.; Geo. B. Decker, Burlington; Louis M. Decker, Burlington; John M. Decker, Long Beach, Calif.; Fred W. Decker, Ontario, Calif.; Michael F. Decker, Waverly, Kans.; Edward A. Decker, Kansas City, Mo.; Manuel A. Decker, Kansas City, Mo.; Lucille Decker, Los Angeles, Calif.; Clara Decker, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Laura Suter, Los Angeles, Calif.
Relatives and friends here from a distance for the funeral were Fred Decker of Ontario, Calif., who accompanied Mrs. Decker and the body here from California; Mrs. Rose Wagner and family of Kansas City, Ed Decker and family of Kansas City; Manuel Decker and family of Kansas City; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Riebel of Parsons; Rev. Father A. J. Domann and Miss Anna Monahan of Paola, X. Decker and family of Hartford and Mr. Berry and Mr. Houghton of Kansas City.
Mrs. Decker died July 27, 1909. In June 1913 Mr. Decker was married to Miss Juel Monahan of Burlington who survives him.
Mr. Decker is survived also by three brothers: X. Decker of Hartford, Martin Decker of Burlington and one brother and two sisters in Alsace Loraine France.
