Born in Athens, he moved to Chattanooga in 1955. Bob was the pastor of Falling Water House of Prayer. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of World War II. Bob worked at Metal Plate Inc. where he was plant manager.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daily and Narcy Swafford; and his sister, Myrtle Minnis.
He was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Millie Swafford; sons, Ronald Swafford, John Swafford, Joe (Janis) Swafford and David (Martha) Swafford; daughters, Nancy (Marc) Simpson and Mary (Jonathan) Stone; brothers, Elmer (Dot) Swafford, Ernie (Joanne) Swafford and Jason (Karen) Swafford; sister, Faye (Jack) Sliger; grandchildren, Ron Swafford, Robin (Todd) Jensen, Renee (Benny) Slaven, Scottie (April) Swafford, Jaime (David) Judd, Joseph (Summer) Swafford, Joel Swafford, Rachel, Ben and Zach Simpson, Emily, Amelia and Jake Swafford, Aleksandra and Dmitri Stone, along with 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Burial will be in National Cemetery.
Visitation is today after 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
