Elmer Frank Swafford, 89, a resident of Decatur, TN passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Grace Healthcare of Decatur.

He was born in McMinn County on February 21, 1929 a son of the late Daily & Narcy Swafford.

Elmer was of Baptist faith. He was retired from the Meigs County School board of education were he worked as a school bus driver for several years. Elmer enjoyed his weekly outing to the Athens Stock Barn and running his beagle dogs. He was active in the Cohutta Beagle Field Trial Association.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister Myrtle Swafford Minis, one brother Robert Jewell Swafford, one son in law Ronald Moore and two brothers in law Jack Sliger and Kenneth Minis.

Elmer leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Dorothy Cranfield Swafford, two daughters Betty Turner (Harold) and Diane Moore, three sons Jewell Ray Swafford (Barbara), Dewayne Swafford (Connie) and Tim Swafford (Marla), one sister Faye Swafford Sliger, two brothers Ernie Swafford (Joann) and Jason Swafford (Karen), nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 4:00 PM in the Athens’s chapel of Companion Funeral Home located 400 S White Street in Athens, TN with the Reverend Jimmy Lewis officiating. The family with receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until the 4:00 PM service time.
The interment will follow the 4:00 PM service in the Short Creek Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
