Andrzej was born in Germany and was the son of the late Edward and Helena (Jozwick) Anweiler and has resided in New Britain since 1951. He attended local schools and graduated from Hartt College at the University of Hartford and the Manhattan School of Music in addition to his studies in Warsaw, Poland and London, England.
Andrzej Anweiler has been internationally acclaimed as a pianist having unique style, elegance and technical brilliance. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras and in recital to enthusiastic reviews and has made numerous recordings for radio and television both in Europe and the United States.
Among his many concert appearances are performances in Wigmore Hall and the Commonwealth Institute in London, the Musikverein, Vienna, Beethovenssaal, Berlin, Ostrogski Palace (Chopin Society) and Philharmonic Hall, Warsaw, Carnegie Recital Hall, the Kosciuszko Foundation Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art.
A composer, as well as a pianist, Andrzej has written music for radio and the theater, chamber music and two ballets. He holds a "Meritorious Achievement Award" from the Kennedy Center for his music to "The Tempest". His memory will live on in the hearts of all the people whose lives he touched.
Andrzej will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Jennifer Combs, his two precious daughters, Alexandra and Juliann Anweiler, his special nephew, Paul Grzyb and many dear cousins, friends and students. He was also predeceased by his sister, Irene Grzyb.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, followed by committal prayers in the Sacred Heart Cemetery-Chapel, New Britain.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Jauary 16, 2009 from 4–7 p.m. at the New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain.
