Elizabeth lost both parents by the time she was six. Her father, in 1836, from consumption and her mother in 1839, probably from the same. Elizabeth and her siblings then lived with Canada's brother, Green Berry Kelly. By 1841 all her siblings had died except Harmon and Paulina.
In 1849, her brother Harmon Kelly married Nancy Rose and a year later Elizabeth, at age 16, married Nancy's brother Michael Rose. They remained in Robertson County, Tennessee until 1859 and then moved to Dallas County, Missouri. Harmon and family made the move with them but only remained there until after the Civil War and then moved his family to Illinois.
Elizabeth and Michael remained in Missouri, establishing a farm, building a 2 story home and raising eight children. Elizabeth was a strong, resilient women who had so much tragedy at a young age and yet survived and flourished. She died at age 88.
