Dee Dunkin Steps Into Hole After Boat Capsizes; Believe Heavy Clothing and Swift Current Caused Death
Dee Dunkin, 43, was drowned Friday afternoon about 4 o'clock when he waded into a hole in the Neches River below Camp Nancy while on a fishing trip with his wife and five other persons.
The party was fishing from a boat when it capsized. They waded to Safety, Dunkin going to the bank opposite the rest of the group. He was crossing the river to join the others when he stepped in the hole, his heavy boots and clothing holding him under the water.
The body was recovered after a two hour search.
Dunkin was a native resident of Zavalla and had made his home there and at Nancy his entire life. In 1917 he was married to Miss Nora Merriam of Alto. He had been a member of the Baptist church for 17 years.
Survivors besides his wife are, two brothers, K. M. Dunkin and E. P. Dunkin; two sisters, Mrs. W. T. Johnson and Miss Effie Dunkin.
Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at Zavalla, with Rev. Lige Mott officiating. Interment will be in Dunkin Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his six nephews, W. H. Smith, John Jones, Joe Johnson, Bledsoe Dunkin, Denman Dunkin and Jimmie Dunkin.
