"Joseph Fabian Mattingly, 91, of Evansville, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Regina Continuing Care Center. He retired in 1970 from the National Weather Service after 30 years. He was a member of St. Benedict Cathedral, Sons of the American Revolution, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He also helped work on the Atom bomb. Surviving are a sister, Mary Catherine Hess of Evansville; two brothers, William of Evansville and Gene of Arlington, Va.; nieces and nephews; and his companion, Annabelle Helfrich of Evansville. His wife, Adeline, died in 1979. Services will be at 8:30 A.M. Monday at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, continuing at 9 A.M. at St. Benedict Cathedral, the Rev. Gregory Chamberlin officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 P.M. today, with a memorial service at 7 P.M. at the funeral home."
