Former Syracuse and Sennett resident Dorothy J. (Schmutzler) Smithler, 86, died Oct. 1 in Florida after a brief illness. A native of Syracuse, Miss Smithler resided most of her life in Syracuse and Sennett before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 1955. She was self-employed stenographer and bookkeeper for many years. Surviving are a brother, Ralph Smithler of Auburn; three nephews; and two nieces. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan. There will be no calling hours. Jewell Funeral Home, Weedsport, has charge of arrangements.
