Alexander Nelson Whitaker was born in Springfield, Ill., on January 7, 1870 and passed from this life at noon, November 30, 1950. He was the oldest son of William Whitaker. His boyhood was spent around Danville, Ill.
When he was at an early age he moved with his parents from Danville to Hooper, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood. He was a member of the Methodist Church for many years.
On August 19, 1896 he was married to Helma L. Spuit in Columbus, Nebraska. To this union were born 15 children.
In 1907 they came to Lyman County, SD
taking a homestead eight miles southwest of Vivian where they lived until 1942.
That year they moved to Draper. In 1946 they moved to Murdo, where they have resided until his death.
